My front porch in Old Town Eureka is known as The Sunny Side. Southern exposure, protected from the wind, it is an ideal place to sit and play old timey tunes and watch the parade go by.

Southern Man 1989

Huck plays

My old friend Nicki posted this video clip in her My Space of me and her husband Larry rocking out in her garage about 1989. Larry worked at Centerville Beach and they transferred to Washington State when the Naval base closed down. We used to have great rockin' parties in those days.

It's remarkable that Nicki found this video tape twenty years later, when southern change is coming at last to the red states.

Google Blunder

No more speculations as to why Google has retired the great and very popular Google Page Creator service. A Google employee has finally answered my question in a Google help group by informing me that it was never the intention for Google Pages to be used as a free file hosting service. And in conjunction with Google Apps it has been very popular as a web site host. I have spent much time in the Apps help group instructing Apps users in how to host their web sites in Pages, create custom urls, mess with DNS entries and have been rewarded by Google with goods and electronic rewards. I honestly thought that Pages web hosting was a generous act of goodwill for the Google community. But I now understand that it was in fact an ill-conceived blunder. I guess I'll have to make do with Sites or Blogger as a free web site. Oh well, I've spent too much time online anyway.

Tammy Bruce Calls Obama 'Darky'

I was tooling around town today listening to the radio and chanced upon some gal named Tammy Bruce on the AM dial and she repeatedly referred to Obama as Darky. I was shocked to hear such blatant racism on my radio.

Google Apps Web Pages No Longer Available

I've been a big fan of Google Apps and the Apps Web Pages. All of my domains are hosted in Web Pages. Google announced a couple months ago that they were 'sunsetting' Web Pages and 'migrating' to Sites. I've spent many hours in the Apps help group helping folks set up Web Pages to work with their domain. On August 23 I set up hucktunes.info to see if it was still available to new domains, and it was. I checked again on October 5 with octoberapps.info and it is gone, replaced with Sites. Sites does not allow file uploads or html, only generic Geocities type of web sites. I've lost my enthusiasm for Google and will probably not be receiving anymore swag. Bummer. And the Google Page Creator archives have been removed, http://groups.google.com/group/Google-Page-Creator.

Ralph Stanley For Obama

His singing sends shivers up and down my spine. Man Of Constant Sorrow is an all time classic, transcending Old Timey music and recognized as a great piece of music the world over. And the great master of the banjo has made it known that he supports Barack Obama in his bid for President. Thank you Dr. Ralph Stanley.

Just Say No

Let them jump. I don't want to fund their time shares at the ski resort in Dubai. If the House passes the bail out it will end the dream of home ownership for our children and begin a new chapter of corporate fascism in America. Just say no. No bail out.
