My front porch in Old Town Eureka is known as The Sunny Side. Southern exposure, protected from the wind, it is an ideal place to sit and play old timey tunes and watch the parade go by.

Walt's Memorial

Lots of folks turned out to say goodbye to our dear friend. Thanks to the Lost Coast Survivors MC for sponsoring the event.

I can see you there Walter
You on the way to work,
Myself, on the way home.
Long days, longer nights.
25 years in the mills.

Small talk
All those things;
Little girls in diapers
Cigarettes and sawdust
Broken jaws and Harley Davidsons

Someone, a little crazy, tells a story.
Crazy.
Walt looks away, smiles
Gives them a cigarette.

One more cup of coffee.
Thermos and a lunch pail
“Well, I guess…”
Ten hour shift to go.
Walter knows 3am Eureka.

At night I can hear that machine.
The one that rips the skin from the trees
Someone else at the controls, but I still see you there
Walter.
