My front porch in Old Town Eureka is known as The Sunny Side. Southern exposure, protected from the wind, it is an ideal place to sit and play old timey tunes and watch the parade go by.

Fred Endert

Our dear friend Fred passed away Thursday, Feb. 21. So long my friend, it's been good to know you.

Bob,

Could you tell me more about Fred? I don't know the name, although I remember a couple guys named Fred who would hang out at the Bean. I don't recognize the man in the photo, but he has a hat and glasses and is looking away.

This Fred was the first Fred, or Fred the first. He quit coming around because he found Jake's humor to be offensive. Jake would always call him 'old man' and play the dozens with him. I used to have a bunch of pics with Fred but lost them in a computer crash before I knew how to back up files. Joe sent me this pic. One day Fred, John and I were interviewed for a Times Standard man on the street piece. Does that ring a bell? Shortly after that Fred made a poster for the first peace march. I still have a copy. I should scan it and post it.
