My front porch in Old Town Eureka is known as The Sunny Side. Southern exposure, protected from the wind, it is an ideal place to sit and play old timey tunes and watch the parade go by.

Professor Rod

Our good friend Rod recently passed on. He was a mainstay at the local open mics. In my two years as host of the Has Beans Open Mic I could always count on Rod to entertain the folks and lead the audience in a rousing rendition of the last song of the night, Goodnight Irene. We are having a memorial open mic at Has Beans this Saturday Night, March 24 at 5 pm. The following day, Sunday, there will be a memorial jam at the Manila Community Center, noon till 5 pm. Rod will certainly be missed by all his many friends. I've gathered some pics and posted them online. Click the image below.

Sophia's Award

Sophie got an award for playing basketball at school. Thanks to all the participants and volunteers.

I've been messing with the trumpet for a solid week now and I still can't hit the high C. Maybe I should just make a lamp out of the darn thing.

My Old Trumpet

My dad gave it to me in the fifth grade, 1961. His dad gave it to him when he was a kid. I'm finally getting around to learning how to play it. I looked up the serial numbers on the internet today. It's a 1928 C.G. Conn.
